
Continuing our series on midges….
Probably the most key feature of a midge larva pattern is it’s slender profile - some experts say it just can’t be too thin - leading to several very effective patterns that are thread only or a simple, very thin layer of dubbing. As you know there are even some bare hook patterns out there.
Another key feature of larval patterns is segmentation - readily imitated by the material itself (wrapped wire), thread or wire ribs, or stripped quill and turkey biots to name a few.
