Just released in June, Thomas McGuane’s Gallatin Canyon is an engaging collection of short stories penned by McGuane - he hasn’t published a collection like this in a couple of decades.

While we think McGuane’s forte is writing about Montana, and there are several great Montana based stories in this collection, he takes his readers to Lake Michigan, Key West, and Massachusetts among other places.

This is not in any way a “fishing book”, though it is aptly mentioned - this is a collection of stories about life - at times whimsical, comical, dark, and even offering glimpses of the palm sweating reality that life so often rares up and delivers unexpectedly.

There’s no doubt, McGuane is a master, and those who appreciate and enjoy great literature will find this collection worthwhile, and reflective of McGuane’s emminent mastery of the language as well as the behaviors of his fellow man.

This is worth adding to your western / McGuane collections.
