There are so many very good Yellowstone NP fly fishing guide books we had a bit of a dilemma in choosing which one we should recommend on the Christmas list. After much pondering and a few cold ones - the choice was clear - The Yellowstone Fly-Fishing Guide.
Craig Matthews of West Yellowstone needs no introduction to anyone who’s fished the Park or read about Yellowstone’s wondrous collection of water and trout.
The Yellowstone Fly-Fishing Guide (written by Matthews and Clayton Molinero) is a no nonsense, practical guide to fishing the Park; with loads of practical information that is for the most part very well organized.
This is one of those “real life guidebooks” that gets pulled off the shelf at least once a week to check some detail that I probably should remember, but don’t always.
We really like the icons providing summary information located the beginning of each water / river presented, and the details that follow in narrative form.
Don’t be put off by the fact that this guide was published in 1997 - Park waters are timeless in many respects, and the information about locations, access points, trailheads, distances, and terrain are obviously still quite good and accurate.
If you don’t have this one on your shelf, it should be, and you’ll genuinely use this guide to sort through your amazing array of fly fishing options in the Park.
