The Garder River is flowing at 105 cfs this morning near Mammoth.  The weather is forecasted to be hot this week: 90s for the next three days  However, the heat may relent later in the week with highs in the high 70s.  With nightly lows only in the mid-50s, expect the Gardner to heat up a bit this week.  There are some large fires burning in Yellowstone right now, so expect to deal with lots of smoke.

Hatches are still off, but an attractor/flashy nymph dropper combo will work well all day.  My personal favorite is a Royal Wulff with a Bead Head Prince dropper.  The river remains closed from 2 pm to 5 am below Osprey Falls.  We recommend that you leave this stretch alone until fall.  The fishing will be much better then anyway.

The water above Osprey Falls is still producing small brook and rainbow trout.  In fact, not much has changed since our last update.  Fish hopper/dropper rigs once the water warms up in the late mornings.  The Gardner has some great action in the fall with the brown trout run; they begin to show up in mid to late September.  If you are thinking about making a trip to the Gardner, we recommend that you wait until then.
