The Park has decided to complete the Norris area prescribed burn today instead of tomorrow due to changing weather conditions due to arrive early next week.

The prescribed burn near the Norris junction has been scheduled for Monday morning the 17th, starting at about 10 AM - if you’re planning on being in the Park that day it will probably be best to avoid that area during the anticipated 65 acre burn.

There are reports today of a new fire in the Bechler drainage - nothing on the YNP official news site, and nothing on the Inciweb site about a fire in this area. We’ll keep working on getting information here - the Park’s SW corner offers great fall fishing…

Two Yellowstone Fires have been announced as controlled today, and a new was started by lightning.
The new fire is the Thistle Fire, started by lightning at about 2:30 this afternoon in the backcountry east of the Yellowstone River and 7 miles north/northeast of Fishing Bridge. Four smokejumpers were flown in to conduct the initial attack.
