The new fire is the Thistle Fire, started by lightning at about 2:30 this afternoon in the backcountry east of the Yellowstone River and 7 miles north/northeast of Fishing Bridge. Four smokejumpers were flown in to conduct the initial attack.

YNP has provided updates on four additional fires (besides the Columbine Fire) burning within the Park this evening.
The Huckleberry Fire is burning about 10 miles east of the South Entrance - smoke jumpers, retardant drops, and helicopter bucket drops have contained the fire to 40 acres by report.
