Two Yellowstone Fires have been announced as controlled today, and a new was started by lightning.
The new fire is the Thistle Fire, started by lightning at about 2:30 this afternoon in the backcountry east of the Yellowstone River and 7 miles north/northeast of Fishing Bridge. Four smokejumpers were flown in to conduct the initial attack.

Amazingly a series of smallish showers have formed in northeastern Idaho this afternoon and moved across the Teton- Yellowstone area, the Madison and Gallatin drainages, and in fact it’s raining right now in the areas of the Rat Creek Fire in the Big Hole drainage in the vicinity of the Wicked Creek complex in Paradise Valley.
