Ok, we’re biased – we live within minutes of the Gallatin here in Bozeman, and we end up fishing the river quite a bit as it’s so close. Most of us on the team are on the Gallatin several times a week, and yesterday a few of us loaded up after various real life work […]
Ran away to fish the upper Gallatin yesterday afternoon (caddis, caddis, caddis) and didn’t get back in until late, and lo and behold, there’s a fire burning in the Park.
The Park announced yesterday that a fire started when a powerline running in a corridor west of the Grand Loop road near LeHardy rapids fell, triggered […]
Looking ahead to the weekend, things look warm.
As of this morning West Yellowstone is forecast to hit 85 Friday, 86 on Saturday, and cool to 79 Sunday, with lows every night in the low 40s. Rain chances are only 20% on Saturday. The weather wizards are forecasting wind most days; sounds like summer.
It’s forecast to […]
Flows have just about settled down to about average levels, and the river is behaving like it typically does this time of year - things have slowed a bit, though there’s a lot more water than this time last year.
The go to hatch is the evening Caddis, probably best for 30 to 45 minutes either […]

There were a couple of interesting side notes from my workday yesterday at the shop -
Two groups of wildland firefighters came in, on their way up to the Cascade Wildland Fire, 6 miles west of Red Lodge. The fire, as reported by InciWeb at 0500 this morning, is at 5,936 acres and 5% containment. Almost […]
The Lamar River has been fishing well this past week; and there are lots of elbows over in the Northeast corner of the Park already.
The Lamar is still high, but is beginning to clear, and a few hardcores have made their way to the Lamar and are doing quite well walking the banks fishing big […]
Seems like summer has rolled in with a vengance the last week or so. Hatches are settling as is typical this time of year, and terrestrials are becoming more important players. Mornings and evenings are really the time to play.
Flows today at Island Park (0730) were 1100 cfs with today’s average 1310 cfs.
The Box Canyon – nymphing […]
